I didn’t pay for a crippled phone. I want full access to the Internet as long as I’m not hogging the network. I think it would be hard to use 5GB on SSH. Listen to the community Wind!

Well – Jonas LOVES food. He gets mad when you don’t feed him fast enough.

It’s funny, lots of people complain about the transition to solids and he’s been great! He likes eating eating some of whatever Daddy is having and today he got some mango. We gave him a chunk and he stuffed the whole thing in his mouth. After a few seconds of fearful angst that he might choke – he just gave us a funny face as if to say, “Whoh – that wasn’t soft like usual!” and then did his usual, “Errrrgggaaaaahhhh” for more.

Today we also went to the Calgary Farmers Market. I love getting food there… it’s fresh and nicer than going to the grocery store. We buy a bunch and then cook and puree food for Jonas to eat, then freeze it in cubes and save it for future use. He seems to agree with the taste more than canned foods.

We’ll see how it goes.

Well – my bike works finally.

I bought the thing last year, didn’t ride it at all last year, and this year found that it somehow got oil on the pads. Nice. Took it to the shop, tech said that he “cleaned” the pads and for me to take it into some mud. Really…. use mud to mask the squealing from the oil in the pads hey?

So, I went home, cleaned everything myself and used this site to do the work:

SingleTracks Hydraulic Disk Brake Servicing

If you need info on how to fix your bikes hydraulic brakes, go here – it’s got pics and you can figure it out quickly.

I did the big no-no and heated the pads in the oven for 20 minutes at 400 Fahrenheit. My pads didn’t delaminate and it burnt all the mineral oil out. I soaked them in Isopropanol (99%) for a bit, scrubbed them, heated them again and then I sanded the pads using fine grit emery paper and cleaned them using Isopropanol again. I’m not going to pay those guys $30 for a pair of stock Shimano pads after riding my bike once. I’d rather go to the MEC and buy aftermarket ones there!

I will get some mineral oil and try to bleed them soon also – guess it still is the same with bikes too – you gotta just teach yourself. I can’t seem to trust anyone in servicing within Calgary.

.

I keep reading articles from the American press and others talking about how climate change isn’t real, or it’s influence isn’t really caused by humans. Really? Are you serious?

You really, in your heart, believe that almost 7 BILLION people living on this earth – of which roughly 2.4 BILLION is in India and China – all getting industries, isn’t affecting the world?

I can see that weather is unpredictable and that you think it’s all a sham… but your frame of reference is small, AKA your mind. The fact is it’s EASIER for you to ignore a problem until you’re staring down a barrel of a gun – then you’re complaining about the cops when you voted down some quality, managed social program to keep badass kids off the streets.

When some oil-paid think-tank says it’s all OK, keep buying crap and driving your car, they know you’d rather do that instead of driving less, buying a less expensive, more efficient car and putting up some solar panels, installing efficient lighting and using less power.

More Americans believe that climate change is a planetary cycle instead of something humans are doing to the planet. I guess when you ship all your toxic wastes to China – you don’t see it and don’t hear it. Does it really even exist? We know that theory doesn’t work with human gas as proven in the “Silent But Deadly” concept… so why shouldn’t it apply anywhere else?

I don’t expect anyone to believe me. I expect you to learn.

My father told me, “All I ever wanted was for you to think for yourself.”

If reading the Washington Post, watching FOX News, CNN and others is the extent you search on your quest for answers… you need to try a little harder.

After work today. I decided to watch the address and inauguration of President Elect Barack Hussein Obama. It’s big news here too in Canada, since we’re tied at the hip to the USA.

It’s officially the first time I was at the supermarket and someone asked me if I saw the address and inauguration this morning. In the first 28 years of my life, I’ve never had that happen for anyone else, even Canadian Prime Ministers – not the same process – but you get my point. It’s both exciting and disappointing for a Canadian. I’m very proud of my country and hopefully this President gives both countries a reason to be proud of their respective skills and areas of expertise.

One thing I fear though is that lot is on his shoulders. He’s a President after all, not the saviour of the world. I think there is a little too much build up. I just hope he takes things in a different direction than before. I’m doubtful one man is a cure-all for every malady Americans suffer from… job losses, credit woes, corporate greed and Iraq. I’m doubtful he can resolve a system in which a CEO gets 531 times the average hourly worker (Canada is 21) which is ever higher than a reasonably corrupt country such as Venezuela (54).

Good luck Obama, you seem like a reasonable guy. I wish you the best and hope you’re as fair as your campaign alleges you are.
