Obama Inauguration & Address
After work today. I decided to watch the address and inauguration of President Elect Barack Hussein Obama. It’s big news here too in Canada, since we’re tied at the hip to the USA.
It’s officially the first time I was at the supermarket and someone asked me if I saw the address and inauguration this morning. In the first 28 years of my life, I’ve never had that happen for anyone else, even Canadian Prime Ministers – not the same process – but you get my point. It’s both exciting and disappointing for a Canadian. I’m very proud of my country and hopefully this President gives both countries a reason to be proud of their respective skills and areas of expertise.
One thing I fear though is that lot is on his shoulders. He’s a President after all, not the saviour of the world. I think there is a little too much build up. I just hope he takes things in a different direction than before. I’m doubtful one man is a cure-all for every malady Americans suffer from… job losses, credit woes, corporate greed and Iraq. I’m doubtful he can resolve a system in which a CEO gets 531 times the average hourly worker (Canada is 21) which is ever higher than a reasonably corrupt country such as Venezuela (54).
Good luck Obama, you seem like a reasonable guy. I wish you the best and hope you’re as fair as your campaign alleges you are.
